ADVERB

An adverb is a part of speech that changes the meaning of verbs or any part of speech other than nouns  An adverb usually modifies a verb or a verb phrase. It provides information about the manner, place, time, frequency, certainty or other circumstances of the activity denoted by the verb or verb phrase. She walked slowly. (Here the adverb slowly shows the manner in which she walked.) The kids are playing upstairs. (Here the adverb upstairs provides information about the place of the activity.) Adverbs can also modify adjectives and other adverbs. You are quite right. (Here the adverb quite modifies the adjective right.) She spoke quite loudly. To talk or write about a person place or thing, you use nouns like girl, house, or tree. To add descriptions to those nouns that give the reader a clearer picture of what you mean, you add “detail” words in front of the noun like little, blue, rich, old. Words that tell more about nouns or pronouns are called adjectives. An adjective is a word which describes or modifies a noun or pronoun. A modifier is a word that limits, changes, or alters the meaning of another word. Bahan: Translation procedures, strategies and methods B y Mahmoud Ordudari, English translator, university of Esfahan, Iran Abstract Translating culture-specific concepts (CSCs) in general and allusions in particular seem to be one of the most challenging tasks to be performed by a translator; in other words, allusions are potential problems of the translation process due to the fact that allusions have particular connotations and implications in the source language (SL) and the foreign culture (FC) but not necessarily in the TL and the domestic culture. There are some procedures and strategies for rendering CSCs and allusions respectively. The present paper aims at scrutinizing whether there exists any point of similarity between these procedures and strategies and to identify which of these procedures and strategies seem to be more effective than the others.
